Located in the centre of the town of Shildon, Holly Lodge care home specialises in dedicated residential, nursing and dementia care. The homes offers a natural and friendly environment and whilst spacious and open, with communal areas for socialising and activities, our caring team creates a warm atmosphere with care tailored to each of the residents. With forty ensuite bedrooms, residents are encouraged to personalise their own space to create their own sense of familiarity and identity.
Shildon is well-known for its connection with the birth of the railway industry in County Durham and also has easy access to the A1 and the small market towns of Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe. The shops and pub are popular trips as part of a wider programme to take residents out and about and form stronger bonds with the local community. We offer: Nursing Care, Residential Care, Dementia Care and Respite Care
Our home is located in the centre of the town of Shildon and provides a friendly environment – spacious and open, with communal areas for socialising and activities, and a warm atmosphere.
Family and friends are welcome to visit at any time and regularly spend time relaxing in the ground floor coffee shop or the secure garden leading on from it. We also benefit from access to our own minibus for some great activities throughout the week!
Our residents will be able to keep active and continue their individual interests as they would at home. Specialist Lifestyle Support workers are located within each home, planning in advance a full programme of engaging events and projects to promote social interaction while also targeting mental and physical stimulation for people living with us.
Our homes benefit from health and beauty treatments, baking, our dedicated male orientated “Men’s Sheds”, trips and many more. We try to engage with our local community as much as possible and have an open door policy for family and friends.
We recognise that mealtimes are a focal part of any day. Nutritional well-being is vital to maintaining a healthy mind and body. Our regularly reviewed menus with resident input, provide a well-balanced nutritious choice of food which also caters for people who require special diets. There is an alternative menu available just in case people would like a change. Drinks, snacks and nibbles including fruit are available through the day and the night.
We also welcome residents who like to bake, cook or help themselves when they would like. We can also cater for parties and celebrations for the people who live in our homes and their families and friends.
Big swing band ‘Once upon a Memory’ will be here on Monday 11th Sept at 2.00pm to play everyone’s much-loved Rock and Roll songs.
On 16th and 17th September residents are off on their travels to the local railway museum to see the nation’s favourite locomotive the Flying Scotsman.
Residents will be enjoying an afternoon of arts and crafts on 21st September as we welcome the Auckland Castle Miners Gallery.
Holly Lodge has a history of welcoming volunteers to the home to support the people who are cared for and live in the home. We are hugely grateful to all of our volunteers and we are proud to bring the community closer to the people living in the home through our volunteers.
If you are interested in being a volunteer at Holly Lodge or any of our homes, please get in touch through the Contact Us form on this website.
